[05.28.2010] The paper "Analytical Modeling and Performance Evaluation of Cognitive Radio Networks" by SATLAB members Derya Çavdar, H. Birkan Yilmaz, Dr. Tugcu and Dr. Alagöz has been selected as one of the "Best Papers" at the The Sixth Advanced International Conference on Telecommunications (AICT 2010), which took place in Barcelona, Spain between May 9-15, 2010.

[02.21.2010] SATLAB alumni Onur Turkyilmaz has been selected as one of the recipients of 2009 Dr. Akin Cakmakci The Best M.Sc. Thesis Applied in the Industry award for his M.Sc. thesis (supervised by Dr. Alagöz) by Turkish Technology Development Foundation TTGV. Gürkan Gür and Tuna Tugcu were also involved with this thesis work.

[02.12.2010] ACM MSWiM 2010 is the 13-th Annual International Conference on Modeling, Analysis and Simulation of Wireless and Mobile Systems. MSWiM is an international forum dedicated to high level discussion of Wireless and Mobile systems, networks, algorithms and applications, with an emphasis on rigorous performance evaluation. MSWiM is a highly selective conference with a long track record of publishing innovative ideas and breakthroughs. MSWiM 2010 will be held on 17-21 October 2010, in the beautiful and sunny Bodrum, Turkey.

[06.29.2009] SATLAB Director, Prof. Fatih Alagoz, will deliver one of the keynote speeches at 2009 International Symposium on Performance Evaluation of Computer and Telecommunication Systems (SPECTS 2009) on July 13, 2009. The title of the speech is "Trends in QoS Provisioning in Multimedia Satellite Networks."

[05.06.2009] Two SATLAB members have made it to the finals of Google Anita Borg Scholarship in the EMEA region (Europe, the Middle East and North Africa) for the 2009/2010 academic year. Suzan Bayhan has been awarded the scholarship while Didem Gözüpek has made it to the select group of finalists. They are going to visit Google's Engineering Centre in Zurich, Switzerland for a networking retreat in June 2009. The scholarship is awarded based on the strength of each candidate's academic background and demonstrated leadership. Through the scholarship, Google aims to encourage women to excel in computing and technology, and become active role models and leaders.

[05.15.2009] PhD student Ömer Korçak has successfully defended his thesis and been awarded the PhD degree in Computer Engineering. His PhD advisor was Dr. Fatih Alagöz. His thesis title is "Routing and Network Mobility Management in Next Generation Satellite Networks."

[04.13.2009] International Workshop on Satellite and Space Communications (IWSSC 2009), 10th-11th September 2009, Siena-Tuscany, Italy. The objective of this workshop is to provide a forum for researchers and technologists to present new ideas and contributions in the form of technical papers, panel discussions and tutorials of ideas in the field of satellite communications and networking. This year IWSSC 2009 will be co-located with ISWCS 2009 to allow the widest dissemination of satellite-community results and ideas. IWSSC 2009 seeks to address and capture highly innovative and state-of-the-art research from the satellite communications industry, focusing on the following main areas: multimedia services via satellite, integration of terrestrial and satellite components in hybrid networks, network management issues, secure communications via satellite, new mobile satellite systems and services, and the cross-layer air interface design. IWSSC 2009 is technically co-sponsored by IEEE Communications Society, with the direct involvement of members of the Satellite and Space Committee of ComSoc.

The annual IEEE International Symposium on Personal, Indoor and Mobile Radio Communications (PIMRC) is one of the premier conferences in the wireless research arena and has a long history of bringing together academia, industry and regulatory bodies. Today, it has become one of IEEE ComSoc's flagship conferences in telecommunications. The 21st Annual IEEE International Symposium on Personal, Indoor and Mobile Radio Communications (PIMRC 2010) will be held in the beautiful city of Istanbul, Turkey, on 26 – 30 September 2010.

[02.20.2009] The IEEE Conference on Computer Communications 2010 (INFOCOM 2010), March 14-19, 2009, San Diego, USA. INFOCOM addresses key topics and issues related to computer communications, with emphasis on traffic management and protocols for both wired and wireless networks. Material is presented as a program of technical sessions, tutorials, panel discussions and workshops. The first INFOCOM conference took place in 1982 and has since taken place at many locations around the world - Italy, Japan, Israel, Spain, Brazil, as well as most regions of the US.

[02.20.2009] IEEE Global Communications Conference (IEEE GLOBECOM 2010) , Dec. 6-10, 2010, Miami. IEEE GLOBECOM is the flagship conference of IEEE Communications Society, which is to be held in Miami during Dec. 6-10, 2010. Technical Symposia focus on technological trends in recent communication research and development from academia to the industrial laboratories throughout the world.

[02.20.2009] IEEE International Conference on Communications 2010 (ICC 2010) , 23-27 May 2010, Cape Town, South Africa. IEEE ICC Conference is aimed at addressing key themes on "Communications: Accelerating Growth and Development". The program will feature major Symposia, Tutorials, Panel Discussions and Workshops.


[09.19.2008] PhD student İlker Bekmezci has successfully defended his thesis and been awarded the PhD degree in Computer Engineering. His PhD advisor was Dr. Fatih Alagöz. His thesis title is "TDMA Based Wireless Sensor Networks for Military Monitoring Systems."

[11.02.2008] ISCN'08 (8th International Symposium on Computer Networks) will be a three days stand-alone event in Istanbul, Turkey. [03.02.2008] International Workshop on Satellite and Space Communications 2008 (IWSSC2008), 1-3 October 2008, Toulouse, France. The objective of this workshop is to provide a forum for researchers and technologists to present new ideas and contributions in the form of technical papers, panel discussions and tutorials of ideas in the field of satellite communications. It is intended to bring together various satellite communication systems developers to discuss the current status, technical challenges, standards, fundamental issues, and future services and applications. IWSSC 2008 seeks to address and capture highly innovative and state of the art research from the satellite communications industry. The scope of the workshop includes a wide range of technical challenges in view of the growing interest for satellite networks, multi-media and broadband access to satellite communication systems, the evolution of future satellite communications with access across hybrid platforms, the direct mobile access to satellites, the use of fade countermeasures and the integration with radio resource management.

The 19th edition of PIMRC will be held from 15-18 September 2008 in glamorous Cannes, French Riviera, France, at the "Palais des Festivals de Cannes" where traditionally the Cannes Film Festival is being held. [17.06.2007] The 3rd RAST (Recent Advances in Space Technologies) Conference or RAST 2007 has been held again in Istanbul on 14-16 June 2007. As before, it is the mission of the organizers to make RAST 2007 a premier event in space technology developments especially those on the way to near future deployment. [05.01.2007] The Workshop on Computer-Aided Modeling and Design of Communication Links and Networks (CAMAD) (September, 3-6, 2007, Athens, Greece) provides a forum for discussion of recent developments on analytical and simulation tools and techniques for the performance evaluation of communications systems. The 12th CAMAD workshop is Part of IEEE PIMRC 2007, and is endorsed by the IEEE Technical Committees on Communications Systems Integration and Modeling (CSIM) and Satellite and Space Communications (SSC). CAMAD ’07 will be an effort to establish the workshop as an annual event motivated by the ever-increasing interest in this hot research and development field.


[30.12.2006] IEEE GLOBECOM 2007 - Performance Modeling, QoS and Reliability Symposium (26-30 November 2007 Washington, DC, USA) emphasizes the design, resource allocation and performance evaluation advances required in order to deliver the expected high quality and reliability in telecommunication networks and services. The symposium will provide an international technical forum for experts from industry and academia to exchange ideas and present results of ongoing research on the challenging issues related to the requirements, metrics, measurement, management, and dissemination, as well as performance modeling for the emerging era of network services. [17.11.2006] The IEEE Computer Society’s annual MASCOTS conferences have a long and distinguished history in the field of Performance Modeling, Measurement and Analysis of Computer Systems and Networks. The 15th MASCOTS international meeting will be organized by Bogazici University, Istanbul, Turkey, in October of 2007 and we encourage researchers worldwide to submit both theoretically and practically significant results in the field of computer systems performance analysis and evaluation, that have not previously been published.
